Population and Sustainable Development Report 2003

The Population and Sustainable Development report is a key report from Government on the interaction of population issues and sustainable development.

It is part of the Government's Sustainable Development Programme of Action. Its purpose is to inform policy makers on population issues and to stimulate wide public discussion.

The Population and Sustainable Development report discusses how changes in New Zealand's population over the next 50 years are likely to impact on our future development and wellbeing.

The report expands the focus on population to include our ability to adjust to a growing or shrinking population, where we live and the quality of life, what we produce and what we consume, and the impact of our activities on the environment.
