Freestore guidance in traffic light settings

The following guidance has been prepared to ensure that freestore services can operate safely within the COVID-19 Protection Framework.

Definitions of freestore

We note that there are a number of different freestore models. To ensure clear and simple guidance, we have provided two different definitions:

Definition 1: An activity where surplus chilled, ambient, and frozen foods are collected (recused), sorted, and distributed directly to service user (whānau). Models that meet this definition should refer to the guidance for Foodbanks.

Definition 2: An activity where cooked or prepared food and other grocery items are collected for immediate distribution to service user. Guidance for freestore models that meet this definition is provided below.

Health Order Category

Included under ‘food and drink business or service’ as this includes ‘other place where food or drink is provided without charge.’

COVID-19 Vaccination Certificates (CVCs)

It is recommended that you request to view and scan COVID-19 Vaccination Certificates for all visitors to the site. If you do not, then your service must be contactless.

You must publicly display whether you are using COVID-19 Vaccination Certificates or not.

Staff and volunteer vaccination requirements

It is compulsory for your staff and volunteers to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

These guidelines confirm how your freestore service can operate safely at the different traffic light settings.
