The Youth Fund 2016 supports projects and activities designed to develop skills and knowledge in decision-making and leadership and/or positively contributing to their communities.

newObject Hackathon is an educational event organised both by and for high school students around Auckland. Students will be introduced to the basics of computer science, code, and programming, and then utilise this knowledge to solve civic issues.



Young Guns Leadership Training Camp


A training camp will provide leadership skills to young upcoming leaders in the Boy's Brigade, Girl's Brigade, and ICONZ to enable young leaders to keep the brigades alive.


Breakthrough Community Trust

Hotaka Kia Piki te Oranga


A six week programme to support youth offenders in making healthy life-style changes using a holistic perspective incorporating the "Whare Tapa Wha" model.


Buller Rural Education Activities Programme Incorporated

Community Fusion


This project will deliver two community events where youthful energy and enthusiasm can be supported and combined with community experience and resources. These events will help develop cross community relationships and ideas for the Buller region.


Canterbury Refugee Council Incorporated

Leadership Development Camp


This project will deliver a holistic programme focusing on the needs of refugee youth, especially girls. The programme covers a range of projects including orientation programmes, career expo, outdoor activities and camps and mental health awareness sessions.

This is a dynamic interactive social change project designed to enhance young people’s ability to relate positively with each other and reduce the prevalence of bullying in Hauraki.


Cathay International NZ Limited



Harmonize is a competition run by high school students for high school students. The project aim is to promote classical musicianship at low decile schools. The focus is on participation and accessibility.

RISE-UP Putaruru Summer Youth festival, a 2-day event involving a live youth and whanau friendly performance event and dance workshops.

Commonwealth Day Leadership Conference


To hold a leadership day for high school students in Wellington to give participants the tools to make the change they want to see in their communities and in the Commonwealth.


Company of Giants



This project is a theatre piece which will be developed, devised, written and produced by youth in the company. It will be presented in Whangarei and then tour the local high schools with a view to take it to the rest of Northland and the main centres.

Young people of Strathmore will learn waiata, dance and weaving, and develop and deliver a number of events within the community to improve the perceptions many have of young people in the area.

This project will deliver a festival for youth in Gore and Districts that will combine fitness, team work, dance and sport along with social skills, organisation and planning skills.

The Hurunui Youth Council will deliver a one day workshop, open to Canterbury youth councils and youth leaders, focused on social media, traditional media, marketing and promotion of youth councils and youth events.

This project aims to create a framework and national network for young people leading queer straight alliance/diversity groups in their schools to stay connected and supported in their leadership roles.
