COVID-19 Protection Framework Welfare Response and Food Secure Communities Programme

Food support under the COVID-19 Protection Framework Welfare Response

In November 2021, the COVID-19 Protection Framework’s (CPF) welfare response replaced the COVID-19 Alert Level system.

MSD is leading the co-ordination of the welfare response to support the framework, including how people with COVID-19 will be supported while they are in isolation.

While most people who test positive for COVID-19 and their immediate household will be able to get food delivered by friends or family, some people and whānau will need help. This includes those with more complex circumstances.

MSD is partnering with key community providers, iwi / Māori, local government and other agencies across health, housing, education, and so on.

This welfare response is regionally led, with MSD Regional Commissioners making final funding decisions in their areas. This process ensures the welfare response links people with trusted local providers in their community who can best meet their needs.

Food support funding allocation

There has been $143.9m allocated to community food providers and for food provision to support whānau and households in self-isolation.

Online form to ask for support

Use the online form on the Work and Income website to ask for self-isolation support from a community organisation. Community, iwi and Pacific organisations offer practical help as well as checking on the wellbeing of individuals and households.

Dedicated COVID-19 welfare helpline number 0800 512 337

We are running a dedicated 0800 COVID-19 welfare support helpline (inbound and outbound) to ensure people get initial help for urgent needs, with more complex needs being coordinated by local providers.
