Supporting organisational capability

Organisational Capability Self-Assessment Tool

Flourishing and healthy organisations are constantly growing, changing and looking at themselves through fresh eyes.

MSD’s Organisational Capability Self-Assessment Tool identifies good practice elements for capabilities that are characteristic of organisations working to become stronger, more adaptable, more integrated and therefore more sustainable. The tool has been developed as a resource relevant to all community-based organisations providing services in the social sector, regardless of their size, service mix, cultural context or location.

The first release of the tool has been designed specifically for MSD-funded providers who are just beginning an organisational capability assessment and strengthening programme. It’s planned that over time the tool will be further developed and evolve to meet the changing needs of the sector.

Using the self-assessment tool

Each capability self-assessment template includes a brief description of the capability and a set of good practice elements to guide your process of reflection.

The Organisational Capability Development Priorities template provides a place to record your overall findings. By completing this you will be able to see, at a glance, your organisation's priority areas for future capability building.
