Working with Pacific people

In line with MSD’s 2018 – 2022 Statement of Intent and its commitment to helping New Zealanders to be safe, strong and independent, the overall objectives is to improve the equity of outcomes for Pacific people. A Pacific strategy and action plan are to be developed.

The establishment of governance and reference groups for developing a strategy and action plan

The Ministry of Social Development is establishing governance and reference groups for developing a strategy and action plan on working with Pacific people.

We are calling for expressions of interest for members of the following groups.

Pacific Steering Group: to govern and steer the development of an MSD strategy and action plan for working with Pacific People.

Pacific Reference Group: to provide advice and guidance on the development of an MSD strategy and action plan for working with Pacific People.

Pacific Steering Group:

The Pacific Steering Group will include competent and experience governance leaders who are of Pacific descent that can champion and provide appropriate leadership and direction for development of the strategy and action plan. Refer to the Terms of Reference for the Pacific Steering Group.

To be considered for this role, you should have most, if not all of the following attributes:

  • sound understanding and experience to operate at a strategic and governance level
  • sector knowledge and experience
  • have skills, knowledge and experience in working with Pacific People
  • have credibility and are recognised as leaders within the Pacific communities they serve
  • are forward thinking, innovative and challenge the status quo to reach positive solution.

The Pacific Steering Group will comprise of 12 members: up to six MSD senior staff members and 6 external Pacific leaders who have credibility within the social services sector and the ability to operate at a strategic level.

Members need to be in a position of influence to enable strong leadership of the strategy and action plan within their respective business groups, affiliations and communities. Together this will reflect diversity across Pacific communities, NGO’s and the business, industry and employer sectors.

Pacific Reference Group

To ensure that the actions and initiatives that come out of the Pacific Strategy and Action Plan are effective for Pacific, we want to co-create with Pacific. The Pacific Reference Group will help us design and implement the strategy and action plan.

The Pacific Reference member group will comprise of 10 members: five MSD members and five external Pacific members who are experienced and knowledgeable advisors, who are of Pacific descent who will act as a sounding board to identify and test innovative, future focused thinking in the design, implementation and delivery of interventions focused on Pacific.

Use the subject heading ‘Expression of Interest for Pacific Steering Group’ or ‘Expression of Interest for Pacific Reference Group’.

Apply by 1 October 2018. The final composition of each group will be based upon the relevance and suitability of specific expertise.
