The Joint Venture for Family Violence and Sexual Violence (Joint Venture) and cross-agency efforts to reduce family and sexual violence

Historically, a number of government agencies have been involved in efforts to reduce the impact of family and sexual violence. In previous years this work was led by a Ministerial Group that provided oversight of cross-government work.

In 2018 the Joint Venture was established to bring government agencies together to work in new ways to reduce family violence, sexual violence and violence within whānau. Its role is to lead, integrate and provide support for everyone involved, to ensure an effective, whole-of-government response to family violence and sexual violence.

Integrated practice across government and in communities can prevent and reduce violence and we know government must do things differently to achieve that integration. The Joint Venture creates the leadership and accountability we need in that integrated system.
