Supporting providers through COVID-19

COVID-19 is having widespread impacts on our communities and those organisations that support them. We’re working closely with provider partners so social services can continue wherever possible. This information is being updated regularly as the COVID-19 situation evolves.

Government agencies supporting social services

As the Government’s funders of socials services, the Ministry of Social Development, Oranga Tamariki, the Department of Corrections, the Accident Compensation Commission, Te Puni Kokiri and the Ministries of Justice, Health and Education have a shared approach to working with organisations providing welfare and social services across COVID-19 Alert Levels.

Ma te kotahitanga e whai kaha ai tātau – in unity we have strength.

By uniting against COVID-19, we can reduce the impacts on our communities while we eliminate the virus.

We are working together to provide up-to-date information for all social services during the pandemic.

The Government’s COVID-19 website is constantly being updated with information on New Zealand’s response to the pandemic and is the first place to go for information you may need.

MSD information

Maintaining provider contracts and funding

The Ministry of Social Development has provided some certainty for providers by treating all providers fairly if their contracted delivery of services is impacted by COVID-19.

Please contact your relationship manager to discuss any issues you are experiencing as a result of COVID-19.

Support through Work and Income

Work and Income may be able to help if you or someone you work with have been affected by COVID-19. This may include the COVID-19 Wage Subsidy, Income Relief Payment, Leave Support Scheme, Early Learning childcare and OSCAR services. Other types of support are also available.

Health information

We recognise and support the innovation shown by our providers as they keep supporting the people in their communities who need it, while staying safe and healthy themselves.

It is essential that everyone is following the Ministry of Health’s advice in response to COVID-19. Their website provides comprehensive and up to date information on how individuals and organisations can appropriately prepare and respond to developments in a nationally consistent way.

For COVID-19 health advice and information you can also contact the Healthline team (for free) on 0800 358 5453.

Keeping you updated

If you have any specific questions, please contact your contract or relationship manager in the first instance. You can also email us at community_information@msd.govt.nz. We will try to get back to you as soon as we are able.
