New Zealand Superannuation obligations
It is important you tell us about changes to ensure we pay you correctly.
You must contact us immediately if either you or your partner:
- have changes to personal details (such as name, address or bank account number)
- have changes to your living situation (such as marriage or separation, entering or ending a civil union, starting or ending a de facto relationship with someone of the same or opposite sex, starting or stopping living alone)
- intend to travel overseas
- are admitted to or discharged from hospital
- have been granted an overseas benefit or pension
- are imprisoned / held in custody on remand
- have any other change that may affect you / your partner's New Zealand Superannuation entitlement or rate.
If your partner is included in your New Zealand Superannuation then you must contact us immediately if either your partner or yourself:
- have a change in work situation (such as starting paid part-time, casual or full-time work)
- have become self employed / start to run a business
- have changes to you / your partner's income or financial circumstances.
In addition to the above obligations you may have additional obligations if you get other financial assistance.
Disability Allowance
If you are paid Disability Allowance, you must contact us immediately about changes to you / your partner's:
- disability costs
- income or financial situation
Temporary Additional Support
If you are paid Temporary Additional Support, you and your partner (if you have one) must take:
- all necessary steps to get other assistance towards costs and
- all reasonable steps to increase you / your partner's income and reduce costs where possible.
Childcare or OSCAR subsidy
- If you are paid Childcare or OSCAR subsidy, you must contact us immediately if you (or your partner):
- have a change in work situation (such as starting paid part time, casual or full time work)
- become self employed/start to run a business
- start/finish part-time or full-time study
- have a change in the costs of childcare
- have any other changes that may affect your entitlement to Childcare/OSCAR subsidy.
Child Disability Allowance
If you are paid Child Disability Allowance, you must contact us immediately if the child or young person:
- is admitted to or discharged from hospital
- leaves your care
- enters residential care
- intends to travel overseas.
You must also contact us immediately if you have any other changes that may affect entitlement to Child Disability Allowance. This includes any significant improvement in the child's disability eg the child or young person no longer requires constant care and attention.
