MSD releases request for 1,000 social housing places in Auckland

25 November 2015.

The Ministry today released a Request for Proposal (RFP) for an extra 1,000 social housing places in Auckland.

This is another step to help grow the supply of social housing and builds on the Ministry’s RFP earlier this year for an extra 300 social housing places in Auckland. An announcement on that is expected soon.

The 1,000-place RFP seeks proposals from community housing providers to deliver more social housing in high demand areas of Auckland by the end of 2018. These places, like the 300, will be funded through the income-related rent subsidy (IRRS).

The key features of this request are:

  • It’s open for 12 months from 25 November 2015
  • All proposals received will be managed by the new cross-agency social housing supply team in Auckland
  • All contracts will stipulate that providers need to ensure tenants access appropriate support services.
