Regional Plans 2010-2012
Welcome to the Ministry of Social Development's Regional Plans. Each Plan highlights programmes and initiatives in each region that help make a positive difference in the lives of New Zealanders.
The Plans outline the Ministry's Outcomes for the coming year, which detail how we are responding to the Government's priorities and set out our programme of work. The Ministry's Outcomes are:
More people get into work and stay in work
People are better off in work. A job is essential to being able to provide for yourself and your family. We help those who can't find work to get back into employment.
More children are safe
Protecting our children is critical to giving children the best start in life.
More young people stay on track
We are working with communities and employers to support employment opportunities for young people across New Zealand.
Reduced reoffending by young people
Many young people are already on track to achieving bright futures, but some need help making better decisions to turn their lives around. We are working to help prevent young people from offending. For some serious and repeat offenders, we help to address the root of the problem, working with young offenders and their families.
Improved quality of life for older people
Older people are a valuable part of our society and contribute to our communities in many ways. We support older people to be happy and healthy and living in their own homes for as long as they can.
Communities are better able to support themselves
We work with other government agencies, non-government organisations, advisory and industry groups, and communities and iwi to help families and communities better support themselves.
