Highlights of 2007/2008

In partnership with government agencies, individuals and organisations, a variety of initiatives and programmes have been developed to address the Taranaki, King Country and Wanganui region's important social issues.
Highlights of work include:
- enabling more people receiving a Sickness or Invalids Benefit to access work
- a prompt and efficient emergency response to the tornadoes that struck North Taranaki
- the introduction of the Integrated Service Response to support at-risk families and individuals
- appointment of Child Advocates in New Plymouth and Wanganui
- Taranaki pilot of the Differential Response Approach
- Keystone Taranaki, which aims to build leadership and governance within non-government organisations.

- advocating for children who witness family violence
- supporting families at home
- protecting vulnerable infants
- ensuring children in care enjoy a stable home

Help young people achieve their potential

- encouraging the transition to learning or work
- linking young Māori with work
- encouraging youth participation
- addressing youth offending
- helping tertiary students make good decisions.
Enable people to live independent lives
Key programmes and initiatives include:
- offering working opportunities
- partnering with industry
- working with the sport and recreation industry
- expanding SuperGold Card benefits
- enhancing services to older people.
Support families and whānau to be safe and resilient
Key programmes and initiatives include:
- providing an integrated response
- taking the message to the workplace
- providing a collaborative response to family violence
- supporting community organisation participation
- ensuring the right response at the right time
- warming our homes.
Strengthen communities
Key programmes and initiatives include:
- strengthening community providers
- developing Māori enterprise and skills capability
- collaborating with communities
- supporting local-level planning
- improving rural access to government services
- helping to implement council plans
- bringing services together in one place.
