Highlights of 2007/2008

In partnership with government agencies, individuals and organisations, a variety of initiatives and programmes have been developed to address Auckland’s important social issues.
Highlights of work include:
- Early Years package featuring the introduction if the Early Years Service Hubs
- establishment of youth justice teams working with communities to help develop local strategies for reducing offending rates
- opening of the Helensville Heartland Service Centre
- establishment of a plan for five new Child, Youth and Family Offices

Key programmes and initiatives include:
- working together to protect children at risk
- improving health of children in our care
- building stronger relationships for the care of Mäori children and young people
- ensuring the right response at the right time
- promoting positive parenting

Help young people achieve their potential

- improving opportunities for young people
- helping young people to live independently
- supporting young offenders

- engaging young people for the long-term.
Enable people to live independent lives
Key programmes and initiatives include:
- partnering with industry
- increasing opportunities for people with ill health and disabilities
- supporting patients and their families in hospitals
- reintegrating prisoners into the community
- expanding SuperGold Card benefits.
Support families and whānau to be safe and resilient
Key programmes and initiatives include:
- strengthening families
- acting on family violence
- partnering with others to support those in need
- providing an integrated response
- helping parents provide for their families
- providing a nationwide directory of services.
Strengthen communities
Key programmes and initiatives include:
- strengthening community providers
- supporting local-level planning
- enhancing rural access to government services
- helping migrants and refugees
- bringing services together in one place.
