Auckland Regional Plan 2007/2008
Foreword from the Regional Commissioner for Social Development
I am delighted to introduce our Ministry of Social Development Regional Plan for the Auckland region.
This Plan provides an insight into the work we are doing currently, and intend to do in the future. Through the pages of this Plan, you will gain a sense of our focus and work, and where there may be opportunities for us to work together.
Our work is diverse and involves working across a wide range of areas. Supporting people, families, both young and old, and communities is at the heart of what we do. A key focus for us is providing an excellent service that meets the changing needs of our clients. We work to ensure our clients can easily access services to enable them to receive the right support that meets their needs and circumstances.
Leading social development across the social sector and helping our families and communities to achieve satisfying outcomes for themselves is not something we are able to do on our own. I want to thank and acknowledge all our partners in central and local government, employers, and community organisations. Your support is crucial in helping us improve the wellbeing of people, families and communities in Auckland.
I also want to acknowledge our staff across every area of the Ministry for their tireless efforts and their continual commitment in working to make a positive difference for people across this region.
We are helping children, young people and families succeed so that children have the best possible start in life, and young people are encouraged and supported to reach their full potential. This helps build families that are safe and strong.
We work to create opportunities for people of working age, so that all clients who are able to work are supported to take up employment and remain employed. We will continue and strengthen our work to ensure clients with health-related needs or childcare responsibilities have access to a range of opportunities including employment.
We are supporting older people to feel valued as important members of society and are enhancing their ability to participate as fully as they wish in their communities.

Through our partnerships with Auckland’s communities and stakeholders, together we will continue to build stronger communities and a stronger region.
