Northland Regional Plan 2006/2007

Foreword from the Regional Commissioner for Social Development

tena ra tatou katoa.

Welcome to the Northland Regional Plan for the 2006/2007 year. This plan builds a picture of who we are as a Ministry and what we are trying to achieve in Northland. Where once the focus was on employment through Work and Income, our scope has broadened to cover all aspects of social development for individuals, whanau and communities. We cannot achieve this alone so much of our work will continue to promote and reinforce collaborative approaches across the social sector. Our vision is to make Northland a place where it doesn’t matter which agency people visit, from there the move between support services is easy and stress free.

Our various services have a broad range of functions for making a difference in the communities that we live in. These changes could be improving the family or community setting, developing sustainable community initiatives or supporting young people to reach their potential. Internally, we are making our service more flexible and co-ordinated so that people have easy access to whatever service they need.

Whether you read the entire plan, or you only read certain sections, I hope you get a sense of the enthusiasm the Ministry’s staff have for Northland and its people. I would like to acknowledge their effort in striving towards providing excellent service to all our clients and stakeholders. They have been coping with a time of change and growth within our organisation, and their positive outlook and desire to make a real difference is the key to our success.
