The Government, through the Budget 2009 process, has secured ongoing funding to provide the Young Parent Childcare Payment.
The Government, through the Budget 2009 process, has secured ongoing funding to provide the Young Parent Childcare Payment for teenage parents under 18 years, who are continuing their secondary schooling. The Payment is to cover childcare costs at a childcare centre should the young parents not qualify for other assistance.
The payment provides up to $6 an hour for each child, up to a maximum of $180 a week up to 40 weeks per year and is paid to the childcare centre.
The Young Parent Childcare Payment was a three year pilot from February 2006 until the end of the school year in 2008.
From 24 April 2009 new applicants can apply via the Work and Income website.
