The Ministry of Social Development has activated the Government Helpline for people affected by the severe weather conditions. Anyone needing assistance from government services can phone 0800 779 997.
The Ministry of Social Development co-ordinates the helpline which will provide people affected by the weather with a single point of contact for information on government services available.
The Government Helpline will be able to assist people by providing them with information or contact details for the services they require.
National Commissioner for Work and Income, Liz Jones, said people needing services such as financial assistance or emergency housing should call the helpline.
“People do not have to be a Work and Income client to get assistance. There is a range of ways we can help.” she said.
The 0800 information line will operate daily between 7am and 8pm during the week and 8am to 1pm in the weekend.
“Government agencies are working together and focus will be on ensuring peoples’ immediate needs are being met,” said Ms Jones
