Budget fact sheets 2008 - citizens support
The Government is investing $1.1 million over the next four years to support advocacy groups who help New Zealanders with social assistance. It will be targeted to community organisations that:
- provide advice on an individual basis
- assist individuals to receive their full entitlement by helping them with applications
- represent or provide support to individuals in their negotiations or dispute resolutions
- represent or provide support to clients taking review and appeal action
Government support of advocacy groups recognises that some people require independent assistance to help articulate their circumstances so the social security system can respond appropriately.
