Budget fact sheets 2007 - mentoring and services for young people

The Government is investing $700,000 over the next year to further support mentoring programmes for young people.

The Turn Your Life Around (TYLA) and Project K programmes are helping young people who are at risk of not achieving their full potential by supporting them to make better decisions about their future.  Both programmes are currently delivered in partnership with government, the private sector and communities.

The funding will see additional places made available in the TYLA programme which provides social worker support to mentor young people from Year Seven for a period of up to five years or until they enter the workforce or further education.

It will also contribute to the ongoing operation of Project K which provides students with learning experiences outside the classroom including a wilderness challenge, one-on- one mentoring and a community challenge.
