Budget fact sheets 2006 - Strategies with Kids - Information for Parents (SKIP)
An investment of $14.8 million over the next four years in the SKIP programme demonstrates the Government’s commitment to strengthening families and helping them raise healthy confident children.
SKIP promotes non-physical discipline by helping parents develop confidence, knowledge and skills.
The SKIP programme has three components:
- A Local Initiative Fund that supports community-based projects that promote positive parenting
- Parent education resources for parents and relevant organisations about good parenting and effective non-physical discipline
- Partnerships with parent support organisations that build on existing parent support and education programmes.
SKIP has the support of local communities and significant partnerships with a number of national organisations including Barnardos, Plunket, Parent Centre and the Kohanga Reo Trust.
This additional funding will continue the Government’s investment in parenting support and education, community projects and research and monitoring.
