Budget fact sheets 2005 - citizens support

The Government is extending its annual investment of $231,000 for another year to support advocacy groups who help New Zealanders to access social assistance entitlements.

Funding of the groups over the past two years has been useful in maintaining services and has seen coverage expanded.

This latest funding is aimed at encouraging further development of sustainable advocacy services.

Government support of advocacy groups recognises that some people require independent assistance to help articulate their circumstances so the social security system can respond appropriately.
