Budget fact sheets 2005 - Child, Youth and Family - Care and protection system service response to demand
The Government is investing $25.8 million to the end of the 2005/06 financial year to address costs arising from the increased service demand resulting from the number of notifications of suspected abuse and neglect of children and young people, being received by the Department of Child, Youth and Family Services (CYF).
The number of care and protection notifications received by CYF has risen from 31,781 for 2002/03, to 43,314 for 2003/04. The forecast level of notifications for the current year (2004/05) is 51,281.
The extra funding will allow CYF to manage the impact of receiving the 51,500 care and protection notifications forecast in 2005/06.
