Benefit Factsheets
This section provides quarterly information on numbers of working-age people (aged 18–64 years) receiving main benefits. It includes national information, as well as a range of information that breaks New Zealand down geographically.
Trends in numbers receiving a benefit are more reliably shown by comparison between the same quarter 12 months apart than by comparison between consecutive quarters.
National Benefit Factstheets
These factsheets provide information on all working-age people receiving main benefits. There is a factsheet on each main benefit, as well a headline benefit factsheet which provides an overall view of recent trends.
Regional Benefit Factsheets
Work and Income divides New Zealand into 11 administrative regions, containing over 170 service centres. Regional benefit factsheets show overall statistics for each administrative region and for service centres within each region.
Territorial Local Authority Benefit Factsheets
New Zealand has 74 Territorial Local Authorities (TLAs), which are made up by city and district councils. From the quarter ended March 2006 , benefit factsheets are also available by TLA using the interactive section of our website.
Regional Council Benefit Factsheets
New Zealand has 12 Regional Councils. There are also 5 unitary authorities (Gisborne, Marlborough, Tasman, Nelson City and in the Chatham Islands) which combine regional and local councils into one organisation. From the quarter ended December 2006, benefit factsheets are available by Regional Council and unitary authorities using the interactive section of the website.
