Information Technology
MSD’s Information Technology Group is one of the largest IT shops in New Zealand, and provides a full range of IT services in-house.
Finance
The Finance Group provides financial management services, including the provision of strategic financial advice, financial planning/ budgeting/ reporting/ consultancy services, vehicle fleet management and efficient financial transaction processing. The Group operates a public sector leading on-line procurement system, and has responsibility for managing the Ministry’s property portfolio to ensure that accommodation is appropriate and cost-effective.
Human Resources
The Human Resources Group supports the day-to-day and strategic management of MSD staff. This includes the Ministry’s Human Resources Strategy, managing training and development strategy, industrial relations issues, and operating the Ministry’s performance and payroll systems.
Risk and Assurance
The Risk and Assurance Group provides risk management, audit and assurance functions within the Ministry. As part of this role the Group provides advice and assurances to the Chief Executive and senior management team on governance and management issues.

Planning Purchase and Governance
Manages the Ministry’s corporate, planning and governance processes, and provides purchase advice and monitoring services to the Minister of Social Development and Employment on the Department of Child, Youth and Family Services, the Retirement Commissioner and the Commissioner for Children.
Communications
Manages the Ministry’s internal and external communications, branding, and media relations.
Legal
Provides legal services and advice for the Ministry.
Ministerial and Executive Services
Provides information and other services to Ministers and Parliament.
